New Senior Study CenterCourse Offerings
The following courses are designed
to provide a working knowledge of the components of an effective, growing
senior adult ministry. They provide excellent continuing education for
lay or staff persons concerned with leading an effective older adult ministry. 101 INTRODUCTION TO THE "AGE
WAVE" The "over 55 years" population
group in America is growing three times faster than the national average.
Business, education, health care, churches, and other social institutions
are feeling the impact. This course presents an overview of the "age
wave" which is impacting the American culture. 102 CHARACTERISTICS OF A SUCCESSFUL
SENIOR ADULT PROGRAM Most senior adult programs in churches
tend to be "maintenance-oriented" and focus on service to existing
members. There are an increasing number of churches, however, that are
focusing on this "target group" of people and developing creative
ministries that are successfully attracting and reaching senior'. This
course examines case studies and characteristics of such programs. 201 STARTING AND GROWING SMALL
GROUPS FOR SENIOR ADULTS The caring, sharing, and personal
growth that occurs in small groups is an important part of a holistic
life. This course helps students understand the dynamics of a small group
and directs the application of these principles to the senior adult ministry. 202 VOLUNTEERISM FOR SENIOR ADULTS With the greater available time many
senior adults now have, these persons provide a natural resource for the
church's volunteer ministries. But there are important elements of successfully
recruiting and involving volunteers which leaders need to know. This course
examines the dynamics of volunteerism and encourages application of these
principles to senior adult ministry. 301 EVANGELIZING SENIOR ADULTS Do unchurched older adults come to
Christian faith for similar reasons as unchurched younger adults? Is evangelism
strategy "cross-generational"? Indications suggest there are
major differences. This course examines the conversion process in various
older adults, and helps students develop strategies for evangelism in
their church. Call, fax, mail, or e-mail CGI for
more information. |
